08:58 pm - Good advice. Don't follow it.

Fortune cookie: "you can never please everybody. Please yourself first."

Immediate thought: By tomorrow morning I would be in so much trouble... :D

07:46 pm - A Public Apology
Dear Universe,

I am so, so sorry for whatever I've done to you. I freely admit that, whatever it was, I was completely and utterly wrong. In the matter of 2012, you are the victor; I resign and leave you the field uncontested with nearly half the year left to enjoy your reign. In return, will you please call off the vendetta? Now?

Thank you.

*hides under the blankets*

In no particular order: A death in the family, an absolute shitton of bad/demoralizing stuff at work, kids sick, grownups sick, baby in the hospital, me sick for about the last six weeks, and now I have huge bruises and knots all over my right leg from falling through a rotten board in the porch. This is why I haven't been posting; where the hell would I start?

...Aaaand as I typed this my mother-in-law called to say she is in the hospital because she'd been having chest pains this afternoon. (Good news: It's not a cardiac issue, gallbladder attack, or pancreatic cancer. Bad news: they don't know what it is.) One begins to understand the appeal of believing in curses; if someone is actively doing it to you, there's the possibility of hunting them down and making them stop...

11:26 pm - Writer's Block: The Walking Dead
In case of an impending zombie apocalypse, what would be your weapon of choice, and why?

A nice pack of big dogs. Seriously, humans without intelligence or speed? That's what a predator likes to refer to as "low-effort lunch".

10:52 am - Peeeeeeeeectures
By popular demand, mostly from relatives, here are more pictures of my progeny. :) The pics are fairly huge, to satisfy the photography-obsessed grandparents, so I suggest going to the gallery, clicking on the first picture, and then using the "next picture" link to look through at a reasonable scale. Plus you get to read my HILARIOUS CAPTIONS that way. ;)

The gallery link: Cute kids ahoy!

My favorite, for a preview:

11:20 pm
Yay, LJ is back!

I'm staring down the barrel of another school year, contemplating the idea of working with a small baby. I stayed home for a year with Tim, and I'm sad that I can't with Lottie as well. But them's the breaks in the US of A, where paid family leave is morally suspect. Or something. Anyway...

I am in one of those strange head spaces of having so much to write about that I don't know where to start. (Plus I'm a blue toaster oven. No, sorry, I meant massively sleep-deprived.) Lots of stuff about health and body acceptance and mental space and suchlike. Interesting head work... But hard. Very hard. One of my quirks is that I have a lot of trouble writing- or in some ways even speaking- about emotionally complex things until the wave has crested, as it were, and I can see my way through. I suspect this habit is difficult on my loved ones. I'm sorry for that, but we do what we can do, day by day.

This is overly cryptic, isn't it? I'm fine, healthy-wise, don't want to scare anyone that way. Just changing a lifetime's worth of thinking. Trying to, at least. Here, go read this link; the information in it is pretty much what started this all off:

Weight Science: Evaluating the Evidence for a Paradigm Shift

Back later; the baby is waking up. Take care, all.

12:56 pm - New Identities
It's not that my son is, as preschoolers so often are, obsessed. No, no, of course not. I'm certain that renaming his mom, dad, sister, aunt, and self Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, Big, and Sonic respectively is a sign of future genius and world-wide renown.

Until then, if he's going to insist he's a video game character, one whose identifying trait is that he has to run really fast in circles every now and then is hardly the worst choice. :)

09:52 pm - Call for artist recommendation
I've decided it's time for the next tattoo, or it will be as soon as I figure out where to put it. :) But I need a designer. Do any of you know anyone who is very good at Celtic knotwork animals?

Oh yeah, I should probably explain...Collapse )

05:44 pm - Baby Pictures!
I'll get around to writing up the definitive, i.e., MY version, of the birth real soon here, and you all can play Rashomon between the three narratives. :D For now, here's some pictures. They're behind a cut for number and for nekkid me-ness. Not that you can see anything, since there's also a baby and/or blankets in the way of anything interesting, but it is true that I ain't got no clothes on. Hard work, this having a baby!

12:18 am - I swear I've done this before...

So in the middle of the fourth grade musical (of course!) I began to have mild contractions and leak amniotic fluid. So I finished conducting and headed across the water to get checked out. And yep, I'm in here until baby shows up. I'm fairly resigned at this point. At least this time I am contracting some on my own so hopefully i can avoid pitocin. An we know that nicu time is very likely so we are braced for that. Now to get out of triage and into a room so I can get the actual computer out and get some sub plans written...

01:26 pm - Grumpy McGrumperson Sez...
Dear Fashion Industry,

If you want to sell plus-size clothing, here's a radical idea: use plus-sized women in your catalogs. And no, I don't mean your ooh-look-she's-a-size-10!!! "plus-sized" models. I mean AN ACTUAL FAT CHICK. Bad enough that society in general would like us erased. But if you want my money, it seems that the least you can do is, you know, acknowledge my existence.

08:17 pm - AAAAAAAAH
Dear Child,

I will get you anything you want, and I mean anything- life-sized roller coaster, actual dinosaur, working wings, whatever- if you can but do me one small favor:

Go 48 hours without invoking the word "why".

Really. Your heart's desire. Just don't ask me one more why question for the rest of the weekend. Please.

10:08 pm - 27/365: Preschoolers in the mist
Timothy's preschool went on a field trip to the pumpkin patch today. He had a good time and came back with a big ol' pumpkin. (His mommy and auntie may or may not have come back with huge gourds themselves. :)

It was a bit foggy, though.Collapse )
